Women’s Tennis Sweeps Singles For 6-1 Win Over Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – The No. 68 ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team took all singles matches to record a 6-1 victory over Arkansas State on Thursday in Sun Belt Conference action.
 
"Hats off to Arkansas State as their new staff has really made a difference. We are still working through some things in doubles that we will need to address. But overall, a resilient performance from our squad," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
 
In doubles, the Red Wolves took the team point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.  Arkansas State started with a 6-1 win at No. 3, but Sofia Johnson and Lidiia Rasskouskaia evened the doubles with a 6-3 win at No. 1. At the two spot, both sides traded breaks of serve in the last two games before the tiebreaker as Arkansas State scored the last two points in that breaker for the 7-6 (8-6) win.
 
Singles saw Johnson get ODU on the board with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Yasmine Hubert at No. 1 in one hour to even the match at 1-1. Kira Matushkina won 6-3, 6-4 over Rebecca Brody in 82 minutes at No. 5, while Ulyana Romanova took care of Ariadna Fernandez 6-3, 7-5 in 93 minutes at No. 6 for a 3-1 ODU lead.
 
Rasskouskaia clinched the match at No. 4 with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Sarah Millard. Alexandra Viktorovitch gave ODU a 5-1 lead with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Anna Grigoreva in a match just under two hours in length. Allison Isaacs finished the match with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 win over Nejla Zukic in a match that went 2:17.
 
ODU returns to action on Saturday at 11 a.m. at ULM.
