NORFOLK, Va. – The 69th-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team finished off a home weekend on Sunday morning with a 7-0 win over Louisiana in a Sun Belt Conference matchup.
"I thought we played a very complete team match today. Our synergy is becoming stronger with every match we play. We had strong performances across the board this weekend," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
Doubles saw the Monarchs get off to a quicker start on Sunday winning the first points in each match en route to a pair of wins at the top two spots. Ulyana Romanova and Alexandra Viktorovitch took a 6-2 win over Paige Duncan and Jenaila Prulla at No. 2 for the first decision. Sofia Johnson and Lidiia Rasskouskaia finished off the point with a 6-4 win over Angelique Berrat and Carola Urchoeguia at No. 1 for the 1-0 advantage.
In singles, Johnson got the ball rolling in a 6-2, 6-2 win over Urchoeguia at No. 1, followed by a 6-3, 6-1 win for Kira Matushkina over Duncan at No. 4 for a 3-0 lead. Rasskouskaia took a 6-2, 6-2 win over Berrat at No. 5 to clinch the match with a 4-0 lead. Allison Isaacs finished the straight-set wins with a 6-0,m 6-3 decision over Cristina Tchainchev at No. 2 to push the lead to 5-0.
With the match clinched, the last two spots went to third-set tiebreakers and Romanova defeated Nina Krecklenberg 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) at No. 6, while Viktorovitch won 6-0, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 3 over Prulla for the sweep.
ODU (8-5, 4-0) now hits the road to take on Arkansas State and ULM next weekend.
