NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's tennis will hit the road this weekend for a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches facing Southern Miss on Saturday and South Alabama on Sunday with both starting at 11 a.m. EDT.
"Heading south this time of the year to compete, we could see rain, hear, wind or all the above. We are a tough team that is road tested. We are looking forward to this test," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
ALL TIME VS. SOUTHERN MISS
This will be the second ever meeting between the teams as ODU took a 4-0 victory on March 26, 2023 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. The Monarchs won the doubles point with a 6-2 victory at No. 1 by Tatsiana Sasnouskaya and Sofia Johnson, along with a 6-0 win at No. 3 by Mya Byrd and Alexandra Viktorovitch. In singles, ODU got quick wins by Sasnouskaya, Johnson and Alesya Yakubovich to lock up the match.
ALL TIME VS. SOUTH ALABAMA
ODU trails the all-time series 5-1 to South Alabama having defeated the Jaguars 4-0 on March 25, 2023 at home last season. Sasnouskaya and Johnson won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Byrd and Viktorovitch clinched the team point with a 7-5 win at No. 3. In singles, Sasnouskaya, Yakubovich and Viktorovitch got straight-set wins to take the match.
ABOUT ODU (5-5, 1-0)
The Monarchs enter the road trip after defeating Marshall 5-2 in the league opener for both teams last Sunday. In doubles, the Monarchs took wins at the top two spots as Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Johnson won at No. 1 and Ulyana Romanova and Viktorovitch won at No. 2 by 6-3 counts. Singles saw the Monarchs get straight set wins from Johnson, Rasskouskaia and Viktorovitch, along with a three-set victory for Romanova to take the win.
Rasskouskaia leads in spring dual wins going 8-1, while Johnson (6-1) and Romanova (6-3) are right behind. In doubles, Johnson and Rasskouskaia lead the team this spring going 6-4 at No. 1.
ABOUT SOUTHERN MISS (4-5, 0-1)
The Golden Eagles dropped their last match against Texas State 4-1 on March 9 as Suhana Das took a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles for the lone point. They will host James Madison on Sunday to round out their weekend.
Das leads the team in spring wins going 4-1 mainly at the three spot in the lineup. Five others have won twice this spring for Southern Miss in singles. In doubles, Das and Alyssa Richter lead with a 3-0 mark at No. 1.
ABOUT SOUTH ALABAMA (7-2, 1-0)
The Jaguars opened conference play last weekend with a 4-0 win over Arkansas State at home. They won at No. 1 and No. 3 in doubles to take the team point, while straight set singles wins from Tereza Dejnozkova, Elysia Pool and Delien Kleinhans took care of the four points needed for the victory.
Pool leads in spring wins going 7-2 at No. 2, while Kleinhans is 6-1 mainly at No. 5. Dejnozkova and Manal Ennaciri are also 6-2 at the No. 1 and No. 4 spots respectively. In doubles, Pool and Dejnozkova are 6-2 at the top spot to lead the team.

ODU returns home next weekend to face Texas State on March 23 and Louisiana on March 24 with both matches scheduled for 10 a.m. starts.
