PROVIDENCE, R.I. – With Old Dominion University Field Hockey leading since the first five minutes of the game, Temple tied the score with 10 minutes remaining and Agustina Tucceriscored scored the game-winner in double overtime to send the Owls to the BIG EAST Championship game Friday evening in Providence.

“It is a disappointing end for us. The season held promise for us, but we had difficulty scoring in some tight games, and today was similar,” said ODU Head Coach Andrew Griffiths.

Temple (12-7) knotted the game at one with 10 minutes remaining off a goal by Lina Neilson, who scored on a penalty corner with an assist from Peyton Rieger.

That led to Tucceri’s game-winner, which she deflected into the net from an entry pass by Alize Maes for the game-winner with five minutes left in the second overtime.

Old Dominion (11-7) got off to a fast start as Sian Emslie got the Monarchs on the board with a goal five minutes into the game, sticking in a loose ball off a penalty corner. The score remained 1-0 until the fourth quarter.

“We played hard and gave full effort and energy, so I can’t fault our players for their effort,” added Griffiths.

Temple outshot the Monarchs 8-6, while ODU had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Owls had a 9-5 lead in penalty corners.

“Just always tough to come up short on our goals for the season.” said Griffiths.

Suus Broers had three saves in goal for the Monarchs.
