NORFOLK, Va. – With less than a month before the start of its upcoming 2024-25 season, the Old Dominion women’s basketball team announced tip times for all 16 of their home games on Wednesday afternoon. All regular season home games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Following a 2 p.m. exhibition against Christopher Newport on Oct. 27, the Monarchs will host Morgan State for their home opener on Nov. 11 with tipoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Other home games during the month of November include a 4 p.m. contest against Bowie State on Nov. 15 during Family Weekend and a couple of 6:30 p.m. starts versus in-state rivals VCU (Nov. 21) and William & Mary (Nov. 26). ODU’s meeting with the Rams will mark the team’s Pack the House game as the Monarchs look to fill the seats inside Chartway Arena.
The month of December will see ODU hosting East Carolina in the Anne Donovan Classic, which is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start at the earliest or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the men’s game versus Northeastern. ODU’s next home game will be a 2 p.m. tilt versus Delaware on Dec. 22 before the Monarchs wrap up 2024 with their Sun Belt opener against South Alabama at 1 p.m. on Dec. 29.
Most of ODU’s conference games will feature 6:30 p.m. tipoffs during weekdays and 2 p.m. starts on weekends. Games beginning at 6:30 p.m. include Coastal Carolina (Jan. 8), App State (Jan. 15) and Georgia State (Jan. 29). Conference home games versus Marshall (Jan. 11), James Madison (Feb. 1), and Georgia Southern (Feb. 2) will start at 2 p.m. with ODU’s TowneBank Royal Rivalry against the Dukes slated as a White Out. The meeting with the Eagles will mark both Fan Appreciation Day as well as Senior Day for the Monarchs.
Texas State will come to Norfolk on Saturday, Jan. 18 in what will mark Alumni Day for the Monarchs as the program recognizes the 40th anniversary of the 1985 NCAA Championship team and the 45th anniversary of the 1980 AIAW Championship team. That game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. ODU will host the second round of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge at 2 p.m. on Feb. 8 and an Education Day game versus Arkansas State at 11 a.m. on Feb. 20.
The Monarchs earned a bid to the WNIT for the second time in the past three years last season and finished their 2023-24 campaign 22-10 overall with a 12-6 record against Sun Belt opponents. Not including the shortened 2020-21 season due to COVID, it marked the fifth-straight season that ODU has eclipsed 20 wins. Kaye Clark was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, En’Dya Buford earned a spot on the All-Sun Belt Third Team, and Clark later added All-Tournament Team honors as ODU reached the Sun Belt Championship semifinals.
This year’s team features four returners in Simone Cunningham, Mikayla Brown, Buford and Brenda Fontana. ODU welcomes 10 newcomers in guards Jadyn Atchison, Simaru Fields, Sarai Estupiñan, Nisaa Muhammad, Kelsey Thompson and Hama’ya Fielder, a guard/forward in Camryn Hill, and forwards Marie Kenembeni, Mariah Clayton and Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald.
