VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.Barbara Car and Mariana Arronte both tied for 15th with a couple of four-over par 214s and Old Dominion women's golf ended up in sixth place following the final round of the Fourth Annual Evie Odom Invitational on Sunday at Princess Anne Country Club.

Car, a freshman from Vodice, Slovenia, started off the three-day tournament with an even 70 on Friday. She followed with a 73 on Saturday and a 71 on Sunday. Arronte, a freshman from Xalapa, Mexico, improved each day of the Invitational. After turning in a three-over 73 in the first round, she hit a 72 in the second and then made four birdies on Sunday for a final round of 69.

“It’s a bittersweet day for us,” said ODU head coach Mallory Kane. “We are so proud to host the Evie Odom Invitational and we are sad for it to end. Thank you to the Princess Anne Country Club golf staff and their membership. Their support and hospitality is the very best! We had great crowds and appreciate everyone that took time to come watch the Monarchs play.”

College of Charleston captured both the team and individual titles. The Cougars went two-under with a 54-hole total of 838 to edge runner-up Furman by 17 strokes. Sacramento State took third place with an 860 (+20) total. CofC’s Emma Schimpf was the individual medalist after recording a 10-under 200. It marked the second time the senior has won the Evie Odom after hitting a nine-under 201 back in 2022. A seven-under final round of 63 helped Princeton’s Olivia Duan place second with a score of 203, and CofC’s Molly Hardwick came in third at 205.

Arronte led the Monarchs in par-3 scoring with an average of 3.06 and in par-4 scoring with a 4.04. Bajwa had the team’s best average for par-5 scoring at 4.83. Car made 12 birdies over the three days, including five in both the first and third rounds, while Arronte made 37 putts for par.

The Monarchs will wrap up their fall schedule at The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State on Oct. 21-23 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.

“Our players handled the pressure that comes with hosting well,” continued Kane. “We were a few unforced errors away from being near the top of the leaderboard. We need to practice hard and get ready for a tough field at Mississippi State.”
