NORFOLK, Va. – Harrison Myring scored two goals and assisted on the third for South Carolina as they defeated Old Dominion 3-1 in a Sun Belt Conference Men’s Soccer contest Sunday night.
“Not disappointed in the effort today, I am disappointed with the application on the defensive side of the ball. Three really pure defensive errors for their three goals. Aside from that, we controlled most of the game with the ball and created chances but were not clinical enough with the ball in front of the goal. We need to be better than that on the road next week to pick up three points,” said ODU Head Coach Tennant McVea.
Old Dominion (5-7-2, 1-5-1) controlled the statistical side of the night with a 13-9 advantage in shots and a 7-2 margin in corner kicks.
Myring got the guests on the board at 15:48 of the first half as he was on the receiving end of quick feeds from Camden Kowalski and Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez as he slid one past Michael Statham for the 1-0 lead.
South Carolina (9-4-2, 4-3-0) took a 2-0 lead at 68:10 of the contest as Myring worked his way down the left side of the penalty box and maneuvered his way through to tally his second marker of the evening.
He assisted on the third goal as he found Ethan Ballek crossing at the top of the penalty box and converted the chance for a 3-0 South Carolina lead at 70:59.
The Monarchs cranked the pressure up and were able to convert a penalty in the box as Andrew Bennett scored on a penalty kick at 71:39 to trim the deficit to 3-1. ODU had another chance erased as an apparent goal by Timothy Ennin was ruled offsides with just over five minutes remaining.
ODU is now on the road for its penultimate contest taking on Georgia Southern on Friday night at 7 p.m.
