NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women's basketball will host Christopher Newport University for a 2 p.m. exhibition game this Sunday at Chartway Arena.

The game will not be televised, but fans will be able to follow along with live stats.

ODU hosted CNU for an exhibition last season on Oct. 27, 2023, a game that saw the Monarchs win by a final of 65-48. Simone Cunningham recorded a 12-point, 17-rebound double-double and En’Dya Buford netted 14 points to lead Old Dominion.

The Monarchs are coming off their third-straight 20-win season, finishing 22-10 overall and 12-6 in conference play. The team reached the Sun Belt Championship semifinals, falling to eventual champion Marshall, and earned a bid to the WNIT. ODU brings back four returners from that 2023-24 squad and was picked to third in the Sun Belt's Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team returns its leading scorer in Buford, who averaged 12.4 points per game and was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team, as well as its leading rebounder in Cunningham (6.9 rpg). Also garnering preseason accolades is newcomer Kelsey Thompson, who was voted to the Third Team. A transfer from South Alabama, she led the Jaguars with 12.0 points per game, 88 free throws made and 68 assists.

CNU went 27-2 last season. The Captains defeated the University of Mary Washington 71-67 in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament title game and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, falling 77-75 to Johns Hopkins. CNU returns two of its top three scorers from 2023-24 in Hannah Kaloi (12.1 ppg) and Camille Malagar (10.6 ppg).

ODU opens its 2024-25 campaign on the road at Ball State for the first round of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge, scheduled for Monday, Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. CNU will start its season with games against Willamette University (Nov. 9) and the University of Puget Sound (Nov. 10) in Tacoma, Washington.
