BURLINGTON, N.C.Philip Minnehan finished tied for sixth and the Old Dominion men’s golf team ended up in eighth place in the team standings as the Monarchs concluded the final round of the Elon Phoenix Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at Alamance Country Club.

"I am very proud of how my two senior captains played," said Associate Head Coach Barry Marple. “Philip played exceptional in the wind yesterday and grinded out a solid finish today. The entire team is trending in a positive direction as we head into our home event this coming weekend. We are extremely excited to go down to Kilmarlic.”

Minnehan, a senior from Rochester, New York, made six birdie putts en route to a four-under par 67 in Monday’s opening round. He then followed with a round of 68 to finish the first day of the tournament in third place with a 36-hole total of 135 (-7). Minnehan tallied five bogeys on Tuesday, but birdied the first two holes and recorded an eagle on the par-5 17th hole to turn in a final round of 72.

Jacob Gunther came in next for ODU, tying for 28th with a total of 215 (+2). He started off with a 74 on Monday morning, but followed with a 70 in the afternoon and an even 71 on Tuesday. Cullen Campbell carded a nine-over 222 to tie for 62nd, Jakub Sutor hit a 12-over 225 to tie for 80th, and James Page went 16-over with a 229 to tie for 93rd.

As a team, Old Dominion combined for a 54-hole total of 868 (+16). The Monarchs turned in a four-over 288 and a one-over 285 on the first day, but slipped a spot in the team standings with a 295 in the final round. UNC Greensboro won the team title with a 19-under par 833, East Carolina was the runner up at 12-under 840, and the host Phoenix grabbed third place with a 10-under 842. Longwood’s Justin LaRue was the individual medalist after finishing at 12-under with a score of 201. ECU’s Carter Busse and Elon’s Juan Callejo Ropero split runner-up honors with a pair of 10-under 203s.

ODU rounds out its fall slate next week when the Monarchs host the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Oct. 20-22 at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, North Carolina.
