NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday afternoon and sophomore defender Ashlynn Kulha was named Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
A native of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Kulha played a key role in marshalling a backline unit that held the league’s leading scoring team to four shots as ODU blanked ULM 1-0 last Thursday night.
On Sunday, Kulha joined the scoring as she headed in a feed from Andrea Balcazar Algarin late in the first half for her first goal of the year. She helped galvanize the backline after JMU jumped out quickly to keep the Dukes off the board in the second half as ODU lost 3-2.
She is the second Monarch to win Defensive Player of the Week honors from the league this year as Emily Bredek won it on August 27.
ODU (6-4-1, 1-1-1) is back in action on Friday at 7 pm ET at South Alabama.
