Women's Tennis Drops Tough 4-3 Opener At Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After a rain out on Sunday, the Old Dominion women's tennis team opened their 2024 schedule on Tuesday afternoon with a tough 4-3 loss to Florida State.
 
ODU (0-1) opened the match with taking the doubles point behind wins at the top two spots. At No. 1, Sofia Johnson and Lidiia Rasskouskaia scored a 6-3 win over Anna Arkadianou and Vic Allen to even the doubles. The Monarchs scored their first nationally-ranked win at No. 2 to clinch the team point as Alexandra Viktorovitch and Allison Isaacs knocked off the 48th-ranked duo of Ellie Schoppe and Maelie Monfils 6-4 for an early 1-0 ODU lead.
 
In singles, the Seminoles took wins at No. 2, No. 6 and No. 3 to take a 3-1 lead, but ODU came back with a win at No. 5 by Rasskouskaia with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Millie Bissett to make the deficit 3-2. ODU evened the match with a victory at No. 1 by Johnson in a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) win over Allen. FSU scored the last three-set win at No. 4 to escape with the 4-3 win.
 
"For a season opener at an ACC school, with three players playing in their first dual matches, I can't be much prouder of our performance today," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla. "To get a nationally-ranked doubles win by Alex and Allison is a good start for that duo."
 
ODU returns to action on Jan. 27 at Iowa State in the first round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament.
