NORFOLK, Va. - The #18 Old Dominion field hockey team looks to continue its winning ways against Queens University of Charlotte this Friday, September 6 at noon in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Monarchs are coming off back-to-back wins against Richmond and Hofstra. This will also be the team’s third road game in the span of eight days.

The last meeting between the two programs saw ODU come out on top by a score of 8-0 on September 8, 2023 at the LR Hill Sports Complex. Sanci Molkenboer helped lead the way as she registered two goals as a substitute on seven shots, four of which were on goal.

ABOUT ODU:

Old Dominion will seek to make it three wins in three matches against Queens. In each of their victories to start the year Frederique Zandbergen has been heavily involved, with three assists in the win vs. Richmond and a tone setting breakaway goal from distance to open the scoring last time out against Hofstra. Both Tess Jedeloo and Sian Emslie have registered two goals in consecutive matches to give the Monarchs additional firepower in these opening matches.

Suus Broers has started both matches in goal and her five saves were pivotal to keeping a shutout in these games. Elsa Goldsberry was called upon to close out the fourth quarter of the match against Hofstra and made two saves to help keep the shutout intact.

During this week, two Monarchs received weekly honors from the BIG EAST Conference. With Broers being named the Defensive Player of the Week and Zandbergen named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

ABOUT QUEENS:

Queens  is coming off a tough opening stretch. Having lost its first two opening games, conceding a total of 11 goals to one goal scored. Jarmilla Richter scored the lone goal thus far for Queens, while Madison Destefano has been in goal for 120:00, making a total of 27 saves so far.

NEXT UP:

The #18 Monarchs will travel to Williamsburg on September 8 to take on William & Mary in a 1 p.m. game at Busch Field.
