GREENVILLE, S.C. – With a final round of one-over par 289 on Sunday, Old Dominion women’s golf finished tied for fourth at the 50th Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted by Furman at the Furman University Golf Course.

The Monarchs started off the tournament with a three-over 291 in Friday’s opening round, then followed that up with a seven-over 295 to enter the final day tied for fifth. ODU ended up even in the team standings with UNCW as both schools turned in 54-hole totals of 875 (+11).

Xavier won the team title with a one-under 863, Western Kentucky was the runner-up with a five-over 869, and the host Paladins placed third at seven-over 871. Augusta’s Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy came in at eight-under par with a three-day total of 208 to capture individual medalist honors. Western Kentucky’s Averi Cline and Catie Craig were one stroke behind Gonzalez-McCarthy at 209 to tie for second place.

"We had our best round of the tournament today (final round), which is a great sign of our competitiveness," said ODU Head Coach Mallory Kane. "We did the same at Purdue. We continue to make progress and get stronger with each round. It will be exciting to watch everyone play at the Evie Odom Invitational in two weeks."

Lucia Gonzalez finished just outside the Top 10, her even score of 216 good for 11th. The Monterrey, Mexico native started off the weekend with a 72 in the first round, then shot a one-under 71 in the second round and a one-over 73 in the third. Carley Rudolf sandwiched a second round of 75 with a couple of 72s to tie for 16th at 219 (+3). After hitting a couple of 75s, Barbara Car finished strong with a 71 for her final 18 holes, tying for 20th at 221 (+5). Alina Shchepteva was next with a six-over 222 to tie for 24th, Puneet Bajwa’s total of 226 (+10) tied her for 35th, and Mariana Arronte rounded out ODU’s scores with a 228 (+12) to tie for 45th.

Up next for ODU is the Fourth Annual Evie Odom Invitational, which the Monarchs will host on October 4-6 at Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach.
