NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's soccer team returns to the home pitch to start a four-match homestand on Sunday afternoon facing UNC Wilmington at 1 p.m.

The game will have live stats and be streamed on ESPN+.

ODU comes into the match after an impressive 2-0 win on Thursday night at William & Mary. Brooke Edwards scored the first goal at the 5:05 mark off a feed by Andrea Balcazar Algarin. At the 7:58 mark of the half, Algarin received a touch pass from Rhea Kijowski to put ODU up 2-0.

UNC Wilmington comes to Norfolk on the heels of a 2-0 win over Coastal Carolina on Wednesday night. Kayla Burroughs and Lexi Vegoda each scored a goal for the Seahawks. UNCW has defeated Charlotte (2-1) and tied UNC Greensboro (1-1) in earlier action.

ABOUT ODU

ODU’s season-opening win over VCU was its first against the Rams in Norfolk since 2008.

After Thursday night, ODU has now won three times in Williamsburg dating back to 2004. The Monarchs scored a 1-0 win in 2021 on a Megan Watts goal and then back in 2004 in a 2-1 overtime victory before Thursday’s win.

Emily Bredek had a career high nine saves in the win at W&M on Thursday night. The clean sheet, her first of the season, was the 15th of her career.

Bredek and Ashlynn Kulha were named to the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team, while the Monarchs were picked to finish first by the league coaches. Click here for that release.

Through three matches, Kijowski, Edwards, Algarin and Yuliia Khrystiuk have scored goals for the Monarchs while Laura Klebek, Algarin and Kijowski have assists. Kijowski has taken nine shots and five on goal to lead the team.

In goal, Bredek has recorded 14 saves in three games with a save percentage of .824 and a goals against average of 1.00.

UNC Wilmington was picked eighth in the preseason coaches’ poll by the Coastal Athletic Association. Burroughs was picked to the CAA Preseason Honorable Mention team.

Vegoda leads the Seahawks through three games with one goal and two assists for four points. Ayla Vaneus is next with one goal and one assist for three points, while Burroughs, Taylor O’Brien and Ayanna Parker have one goal each for two points.

In the net, Morgan Hobbs has a .800 save percentage, a 0.67 goals against average and one shutout through three matches.
