NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion linebacker Jason Henderson earned a pair of preseason honors on Tuesday, earning preseason first-team All-America honors by the Sporting News and being named to the Butkus Award Watch List.
Henderson earned first-team Sporting News All-America honors last season after leading the country in tackles per game (14.2) and finishing third in tackles for loss per game at 1.6. He finished 2023 with 170 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He became the first Monarch to earn first-team FBS All-America honors and the first ODU FBS player to be a two-time All-American.
In his ODU career, Henderson has a school record 436 tackles. He has 22 double-digit tackle games the last two seasons and 26 in his career.
Henderson and the Monarchs travel to South Carolina on Saturday, Aug. 31 for the season opener before hosting East Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 7 in the home opener.
