Henderson Named to Bednarik Award Watch List

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion senior linebacker Jason Henderson has been named to the Bednarik Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday. The Bednarik Award is presented annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion senior linebacker Jason Henderson has been named to the Bednarik Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday. The Bednarik Award is presented annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.

A two-time All-America honoree, Henderson led the country in tackles per game the last two seasons. He recorded14.2 tackles per game and finished the year with 170 tackles. He totaled a single-season ODU record 19.5 tackles for loss and ranked third in the country with 1.6 tackles for loss per game. In 2022, he led the country with 186 tackles and 15.5 tackles per game.

A native of Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania Henderson is the only returning FBS two-time All-American in college football this season. He is second among active college football players in career tackles and is 142 tackles away from the FBS record.

Henderson earned first-team All-America honors in 2023 from multiple media outlets, including Walter Camp, and The Sporting News and second-team honors from the FWAA, AP and USA Today. Henderson earned All-America honors in 2022, receiving second-team honors from the FWAA and USA Today and third-team accolades by the AP.

Henderson and the Monarchs open the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug, 31 at South Carolina.
