LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced the recipients of this year’s AVCA Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT, on Wednesday and Old Dominion was among more than 1,400 collegiate and high school programs to earn the distinction.
This marks the fifth consecutive year that ODU has received the Team Academic Award, with the Monarchs having earned the award every year in program history.
“Our team continues to show their dedication to academics each and every year,” said ODU Head Coach Fred Chao. “It’s part of our program’s culture and I couldn’t be more proud of our ladies.”
The AVCA Team Academic Award was initiated in the 1992-93 season. To be eligible, a program must maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale). As a team, the Monarchs combined to earn a 3.63 GPA for the 2023-24 academic year.
