RALEIGH, N.C. -- A 14-match winning streak for Old Dominion women’s tennis came to an end on Sunday afternoon as the 14th-ranked N.C. State Wolfpack took a 4-0 win over the Monarchs in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. On the year, the Monarchs finished with an 18-6 mark.

“A fourth straight trip to round of 32, hats off to this young group. They really just came in and took our program by storm. At the beginning of this match, I told them today starts a new era on ODU tennis. These young ones got our team to this point, got us to playing for a chance for the Sweet 16. For them to do that with the teams we have had, older groups, these young players gave us an opportunity and I am looking forward to coaching them,” said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.

Doubles saw the Wolfpack take the team point with wins at No. 1 (6-3) and No. 2 (6-0). At No. 3, Allison Isaacs and Kira Matushkina rallied from down 0-3 to tie the match 3-3 when N.C. State clinched the team point.

In singles, the 14th-ranked Wolfpack took wins at No. 1 (6-2, 7-5), No. 2 (6-4, 6-1) and No. 3 (7-5, 6-2). The Wolfpack have three players ranked in the top 75 at the top of their lineup, including second-ranked Amelia Rajecki at No. 1.

Lidiia Rasskouskaia had taken the second set in her match at No. 4 in a tiebreaker just before the Wolfpack clinched the win.

The year was full of highlights as ODU won its fourth straight conference title and second straight Sun Belt crown. Sofia Johnson will play in the NCAA Singles Championships starting on May 20 in Stillwater, Oklahoma and will enter that tournament with a 20-10 record that was capped with her clinching win against South Carolina in the first round. Rasskouskaia finished the season with a 20-1 mark and won her last 13 matches.
