NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion Baseball junior infielder Maverick Stallings has been named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The Apopka, Florida native had quite the productive series at the plate this past week at Georgia State. Stallings helped the Monarchs (29-24, 15-15 Sun Belt) win two of three games over the Panthers after batting .333 (4-for-12) with a 1.167 slugging percentage and a .333 on-base percentage. He homered in all three games and has now gone yard five times in the past four games to take the team lead in long balls this season with 11. His other weekly totals included one double, four runs and nine RBIs.

In Thursday’s series opener, the Monarchs were down 3-2 when Stallings hit a three-run blast to left field. The sixth-inning home run proved to be enough as ODU held on for a 6-4 final. On Friday, his solo homer in the fifth inning put Old Dominion ahead 3-2, but GSU went on to a 5-3 win to even the series at a game apiece. Stallings then belted a three-run shot in the fifth inning of Saturday’s rubber match to extend the Monarch lead to 11-1. ODU wrapped up its trip to Atlanta with a 20-6 victory over the Panthers to clinch its spot in this week’s Guardian Credit Union Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship, presented by Troy University.

Stallings and the Monarchs enter the conference tournament as the No. 8 seed and will play a single-elimination game this Tuesday in Montgomery, Alabama. First pitch from Riverwalk Stadium, the home of the Montgomery Biscuits, is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and fans unable to attend can watch the game on ESPN+ or tune into ESPN 94.1 to hear Eric Bohannon calling the action.
