POINT CLEAR, Ala. – The Old Dominion women's golf team begins play at the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Championship this Monday at Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear, Alabama. The Championship will include all 13 women's golf programs in the conference.
The tournament will feature three rounds of stroke play this Monday through Wednesday with 9 a.m. ET split-tee times each day. The top four teams will then advance to match play on Thursday with tee times scheduled for 8:30 a.m. ET. The championship match will follow the conclusion of the semifinal matches.
The Sun Belt is hosting the championship at Lakewood Golf Club's Dogwood Course for the first time, which features a par of 72 and its 6,106 total yards. All four rounds of the tournament will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and live stats will be available through GolfStat. ODU's lineup will include Minami Kudo, Klara Wildhaber, Puneet Bajwa, Carley Rudolf and Lucia Gonzalez with Leiu Yuenyong serving as an alternate. The Monarchs posted three Top 10 finishes in 2023-24, to include placing fifth at the Evie Odom Invitational (Oct. 6-8), coming in third at the Columbia Classic (Feb. 10-12), and ending up in seventh at the Ironwood Invitational (April 1-2) to conclude the regular season.
Alumni Leah Onosato became the first Monarch women's golfer in program history to win a conference tournament last year as the Kumamoto, Japan native led the three-day tournament from start to finish. She opened with a four-under par round of 68, followed with a one-over 73 on the second day, and turned in another 73 for her final trip around the LPGA International Hills Course in Daytona Beach, Florida. With the win, Onosato earned the league's automatic qualifier to the Palm Beach Gardens Regional. As a team, the Monarchs combined for a 964 (+44) to finish seventh.
