Women’s Tennis Starts Final Home Weekend With 6-1 Win Over Coastal Carolina

NORFOLK, Va. – The 70th-ranked Old Dominion women's tennis team started their final home weekend of the 2024 season with a 6-1 win on Friday over Coastal Carolina outside at a blustery Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
 
"A great win today.  Coastal did a good job managing the match with the weather and putting themselves in the best position.  I am extremely proud of how we responded and closed out several tough matches for the team win.  Big one tomorrow with Georgia Southern for Senior Day," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
 
The match was locked up as Lidiia Rasskouskaia jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the third-set tiebreaker and cruised to a 10-3 win. She won the first set 7-5 over Kata Foldeak and then lost the second 7-5 before the super tiebreaker for the third set.
 
Doubles saw Coastal Carolina take the first win at No. 2 by a 6-3 count. ODU answered with a 6-2 win at No. 3 by Allison Isaacs and Kira Matushkina over Nicole Abel and Brooke Rogers. The Monarchs claimed the team point with a 6-3 win by Sofia Johnson and Rasskouskaia at No. 1 over Anna Babayan and Jesse Hollins.
 
In singles, ODU started off with wins at the bottom of the lineup as Ulyana Romanova defeated Aida Maria Mitrache 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6 for a 2-0 lead. Matushkina followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Cecile Morin at No. 5 to push the lead to 3-0.
 
Alexandra Viktorovitch gave the Monarchs a 4-0 advantage with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Babayan at No. 2 and then Isaacs made it 5-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Hollins. Coastal Carolina claimed their point at No. 1, before Rasskouskia's win at No. 4.  
 
ODU finishes off the home slate on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. facing Georgia Southern.
