NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team opened American Athletic Lacrosse play falling to Cincinnati, 13-9 on Sunday at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. Emma Arnold and Lilly Siskind each scored two goals and had an assist in the loss.
Cincinnati (8-3, 1-0) opened the scoring with 11:17 to play in the first quarter and then extended its lead to two with another goal. ODU responded when Sydney Taylor found Cammie Mann for her first goal of the season but the Bearcats would answer with four more goals to end the first period of play up 6-1.
Cincinnati opened the second quarter with a goal making it 7-1, but ODU (3-7, 0-1) responded as Olivia Tanneberger found the back of the net. The Monarchs would continue the offensive pressure when Siskind teamed up with Arnold for a goal, then Siskind scored a goal with 8:29 to play in the first half making it 7-4. The Bearcats quickly built its lead back to six goals after scoring three before Arnold found Taylor for a goal. With 56 seconds to play in the first half Arnold cut into the Cincinnati lead with her second goal of the day making it 10-6 at the break.
The second half was a defensive battle as ODU surrendered two goals to the Bearcats in the third quarter and Cincinnati kept the Monarchs scoreless. Entering the fourth quarter, ODU trailed 12-6 but took seven minutes to spark the offense courtesy of Callie Culhane. Mann would team up with Siskind for a goal to make it 12-8 with 7:33 to play but the Bearcats got a goal back. ODU tried to comeback when Tanneberger scored her second goal of the day, but the Bearcats held on to win 13-9.
Old Dominion outshot Cincinnati 28-25 but the Bearcats keeper made 15 saves.
ODU is back in action on Saturday, March 23 when they travel to Gainesville for a matchup with #13 Florida at noon.
