JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The Old Dominion women's golf team completed play at the Briar's Creek Invitational on Tuesday, finishing 17th in the event held at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek.
Monday saw the teams play 36 holes over the 6,152-yard, par-72 course and the Monarchs finished the opening round at nine-over par 297 to sit in 12th place. Round Two saw the Monarchs record a 309 to drop to 17th, and Tuesday's final round saw the team card a 315 to finish with a combined 921.
Michigan State won the event with a four-under total of 860, with N.C. State second at one-over 865. Purdue was third at seven-over 871, while Illinois and UCF were at nine-over 873 to tie for fourth. Six Top 50 nationally-ranked teams were in this power laden event.
In the individual standings, there was a four-way tie for first. Illinois' Isabel Sy, Michigan State's Brooke Biermann and Katie Lu, and NC State's Lauren Olivares Leon all carded five-under par totals of 211.
Puneet Bajwa was the top finisher for ODU, recording rounds of 71-76-76 for a 223 total to end up tied for 39th. Carley Rudolf was tied for 74th after rounds of 71-77-82 for a 230. Leiu Yuenyong turned in rounds of 77-78-79 for a 234 total to place 89th, Klara Wildhaber shot 78-78-80 for a 54-hole total of 236 to finish tied for 91st. Lucia Gonzalez rounded out the Monarch lineup with scores of 80-83-80 for a 243 total and a 99th place showing.
Sarah Mardani competed as an individual and shot rounds of 80-76-80 for a 236 total that tied her for 91st.
"We will regroup in the coming weeks and be ready for ECU. We are not far off from shooting better scores," said ODU Head Coach Mallory Kane.
Old Dominion will next see action on April 1-2 at the Ironwood Invitational in Greenville, North Carolina hosted by East Carolina.
