ORLANDO, Fla. – The Old Dominion women's golf team wrapped up the final round of the UCF Challenge on Monday, with the Monarchs finishing 17th in their first tournament of the 2024 spring season.
The UCF Challenge, held at Eagle Creek Golf Club, was originally scheduled for Sunday through Tuesday. Inclement weather was expected in the area on Sunday, so the opening round was moved up to Saturday in lieu of a practice round. The bad weather then missed the area, and the Challenge wrapped up a day early.
Central Florida's event featured a stacked field, with over half of the teams currently listed in the Top 50 in the latest NCAA rankings. North Carolina finished atop the team standings with an 18-under par 846, Kansas took second place with a 13-under 851, and Miami rounded out the top three with an 11-under 853. Texas Tech's Lauren Zaretsky carded a 13-under 203 to earn individual medalist honors, and UCF's Molly Smith was the runner-up with a 10-under 206.
The Monarchs combined for a three-day total of 902 (+38), but finished the tournament with their best round, a two-over 290, on Monday. Carley Rudolf was ODU's top finisher, her final score of six-over 222 tying for 59th. Leiu Yuenyong and Klara Wildhaber turned in a pair of 227s to tie for 72nd, Lucia Gonzalez tied for 84th with a 229, and Sarah Mardani posted a 238 to tie for 95th.
The Monarchs will be back in the Sunshine State this weekend as the team heads to Melbourne, Florida to play in the Columbia Classic, presented by Moon Golf. The tournament will be held at Duran Golf Club this Saturday through next Monday, Feb. 10-12.
