NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's tennis returns to action and hits the road for a pair of matches this week. They'll start at VCU on Wednesday for a 2:30 p.m. first serve, and then head to Princeton on Friday this week for a 1 p.m. start.
 
Old Dominion has won the last six matchups versus VCU, including a 6-1 victory over the Rams on April 8, 2022. In doubles, Sofia Johnson and Alexandra Viktorovitch got the first win of the match 6-2 over Yelizaveta Karlova and Nina Sorkin at three, earning the team point.
 
In singles, the Monarchs had won the first five sets before it started raining. Then the match was moved inside where ODU gained five straight wins over the Rams. Tatsiana Sasnouskaya opened with a run of 6-1, 6-1 win at number two.
 
This will be the 33rd matchup against VCU, with the Rams leading the series 21-11.
 
The Rams have started this season off strong with a 10-1 record, their only loss coming to the Liberty Flames. VCU is led by Emma Valletta in singles who is 18-7 overall. The Rams are also led by the doubles team Emma Rizzetto and Tiziana Rossini, the pair are 12-3 overall.
 
They also have the 47th-ranked doubles tandem of Yelizaveta Karlova and Emma Valletta who are 9-4 on the year.
 
Princeton began this season 6-3, dropping matches to Duke (7-0), Yale (4-2), and Oklahoma State (7-0). They have wins over Rutgers (4-3), Denver (4-3), Temple (7-0), Kentucky (4-3), Cornell (4-1), Brown (4-2). The Tigers are led by Eva Elbaz and Maia Sung, both 8-3 overall, in singles. In doubles, Princeton is led by Maia Sung and Bella Chhiv, the duo producing a record of 7-2 overall.
 
This is the sixth matchup of the Tigers and the Monarchs, with Princeton leading the series 4-1. The last time they faced off was February 2 of last year when the Tigers won 4-3 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
 
"Both VCU and Princeton have had strong starts to the season. We've had a constructive two weeks of practice, and we are excited for two tough road matches," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla.
 
The Monarchs will begin Sun Belt Conference play on March 9 hosting Marshall at 10 a.m.
