NORFOLK, Va. – The BIG 12 announced that Old Dominion's women's rowing team will be joining the conference in the 2024-2025 academic year on Wednesday. ODU joined the BIG 12 in 2015 after leaving Conference USA. The Monarchs joined the American Athletic Conference in 2019 and will now rejoin the BIG 12 nine years later.
"We are excited to announce Florida, San Diego State and UC Davis as affiliate members in lacrosse plus Old Dominion and Tulsa in rowing," Big 12 Vice President for Women's Basketball & Competition Dayna Scherf said. "These additions support the continued growth of women's sports across our Conference, including the league's first lacrosse championship. We look forward to welcoming the coaches, student-athletes and fans from each of these institutions to Big 12 competition."
The women's rowing team will compete in the American Athletic Conference this season and make the transition to the BIG 12 in the fall. ODU's rowing team opens up its spring season on Saturday, Mar. 16 in Norfolk as they host Saint Joseph's and Monmouth.
