NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's basketball team finishes off their 2023-24 home schedule over this week as they host league leading App State on Thursday and Coastal Carolina on Saturday for Senior Night inside Chartway Arena with both games starting at 7:00 p.m.
 
You can watch both games on ESPN+ with Scott Jackson and Billy Mann on the call. Fans can also listen to Priority Auto Sports Radio 94.1FM with Ted Alexander and Dennis Wolff on the call at 6:30 p.m. both nights.
 
Old Dominion split a pair of games last season with App State in the first-ever meetings with the Mountaineers. App State defeated ODU 72-58 on Jan. 21, 2023 in Chartway, while ODU knocked off App State 74-63 in Boone, N.C. on Feb. 18, 2023.  In the game at App State, the Monarchs used a 13-1 run late in the second half to pull away in a contest that saw them play without starters Chaunce Jenkins and Ben Stanley due to injuries. Mekhi Long had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead four in double figures that day.
 
This is the second meeting this year with Coastal Carolina who defeated ODU 79-75 on January 13 as Chaunce Jenkins scored 24 points to lead ODU. The Monarchs trailed by 11 with 7:39 left and made it a one-point game after a pair of Tyrone Williams free throws with 33 seconds left. A last ditch shot fell short and Coastal Carolina hit three free throws for the final margin. The Monarchs lead the all-time series 3-2.
 
ABOUT ODU
ODU dropped a tough 68-65 decision to Georgia State on Saturday night. Jenkins had 22 points and Devin Ceaser added 10 as ODU rallied from a 12-point deficit to take the lead late in the contest, but a pair of free throws enabled the Panthers to escape with the win.
 
For the season, Jenkins leads the team in scoring at 16.2 points per game and team-highs of 70 assists, 41 3-pointers and 105 free throws made. Williams follows at 12.0 points and a team-high 5.7 rebounds and 38 steals, while Ceaser is at 8.8 points per game. R.J. Blakney is next at 7.8 ppg and second on the team with 4.2 rebounds per contest, while leading in blocked shots with 24.
 
As a team, the Monarchs are averaging 70.5 points per game and allowing 75.9. From the floor, the Monarchs are hitting 711-of-1679 (42.3%) from the field, 182-of-576 (31.6%) from 3-point range and 300-of-453 from the foul line (66.2%). The opposition is hitting 686-of-1591 from the field (43.1%), 241-of-693 from 3-point range (34.8%) and 437-of-614 (71.2%) from the line. ODU is being outrebounded 40.0 to 35.5 per game. The Monarchs average 11.1 turnovers per game and force 13.1 per contest.
 
ABOUT APP STATE
The Mountaineers have won 11 of their last 12 games, including an 85-73 on Saturday over Louisiana at home. App State closed the game outscoring Louisiana 32-10 over the final 14 minutes as Jordan Marsh scored 23 points in 16 minutes of action off the bench to lead the Mountaineers.
 
Tre'Von Spillers leads App State in scoring at 13.2 points per game, 8.4 rebounds per game and in field goal percentage at 63.2%. Donovan Gregory follows him at 13 points per game and is second in assists with 78. Terence Harcum rounds out the double figure scorers at 11.5 points per game and a team-high 56 3-pointers made. Miles Tate is next at 8.8 points per game and a team-high 94 assists, while Justin Abson is averaging 8.0 points per game and leads the league in blocked shots with 86.
 
As a team, App State is averaging 78.6 points per game and allowing 66.8. From the floor, they're hitting 795-of-1676 (47.4%), 180-of-554 (32.5%) from 3-point range and 353-of-532 from the line (66.4%). Their opponents are hitting 684-of-1760 from the floor (38.9%), 181-of-581 from 3-point land (31.2%) and 254-of-368 (69%) from the line. On the boards, App State is averaging 41.6 rebounds per game to their opponents 36.5. They average 10.8 turnovers per game and force 11.2 per contest.
 
ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
The Chanticleers swept their home games last week defeating Georgia Southern 82-75 on February 15 and winning Saturday over Marshall 74-67. They visit Georgia State on Wednesday before heading to Norfolk.
 
In the first meeting with ODU, Kylan Blackmon and Jacob Meyer had 15 points apiece to lead five in double figures. John Ojiako added 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Braeden MacVicar added 13 and six boards with Kevin Easley scoring 10 off the bench. MacVicar hit two free throws with 0.3 seconds left to ice the win.
 
Meyer leads Coastal Carolina in scoring averaging 14.4 points per game and is second on the team in assists (63) and steals (28). Ojiako is next averaging 12.6 points, a league-high 10.5 rebounds and a team-best 25 blocked shots. Blackmon rounds out the double figure scorers at 12.0 points per game and leads the team with 50 3-pointers. Easley is just off the double figure pace at 9.3 points per game.
 
As a team, Coastal Carolina averages 74.9 points per game and allows 79.2. From the field, they are hitting 690-of-1536 (44.9%), 167-of-512 from 3-point range (32.6%) and 326-of-508 from the foul line (64.2%). Their opponents are hitting 692-of-1637 (42.3%) from the field, 259-of-767 (33.8%) from 3-point range and 336-of-488 (68.9%) from the line. Coastal Carolina is outrebounding their opponents 40.2 to 38.1 per game and average 13.2 turnovers per game while forcing 10.0.

The Monarchs close out the regular season with a rematch at App State on Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. and then the regular season finale at Georgia Southern on March 1 at 7 p.m.
