NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women's tennis team heads back to the Midwest this weekend for a pair of matches starting on Friday at 11:00 a.m. EST at Iowa State. On Sunday, they'll visit Kansas for a 1 p.m. EST start.

ODU (2-3) played at Iowa State on January 27 and took a 4-0 win over the Cyclones in the opening round of the Iowa State Regional in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament. The Monarchs won the doubles point as Sofia Johnson and Lidiia Rasskouskaia scored a 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 1 for the team point.

In singles, the Monarchs got wins by Ulyana Romanova at No. 6, Johnson at No. 1 (6-2, 6-2) and Rasskouskaia at No. 5 (6-4, 6-4) to take the victory. Rasskouskaia leads the Monarchs with a 4-0 mark at No. 5 singles, while Romanova and Kira Matushkina have a 3-1 mark at No. 3 doubles. Johnson and Rasskouskaia are 3-2 at No. 1 spot.

This will be the fourth all-time meeting with Iowa State as ODU now leads the series 2-1.

Iowa State started the season with wins over South Dakota (4-2) and Missouri State (4-1) before losing both matches in the regional to ODU and #12 UCLA (4-0). This will be their first match since the regional on January 28.

Isabella Dunlap leads the team in spring wins with a 2-0 mark at No. 2 singles. In doubles, Valeska San Martin and Ashlee Narker are 2-0 at No. 2 spot.

Kansas began its season in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Tournament losing both matches in a regional hosted by Ohio State. They dropped a 4-2 contest to Arizona State and then 4-3 to Notre Dame.

Kyoko Kubo leads the Jayhawks in singles wins with a 2-0 mark at No. 4, while in doubles the duo of Kubo and Jocelyn Massey are 2-0 at No. 2.

This is the third all-time meeting between the teams as Kansas has won the previous two. They defeated ODU 4-3 last season on March 5, 2023 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

"We head back to Iowa State on Friday who has been a powerhouse for last few years. Had a great win against them a couple weeks ago, they were a little beat up and expecting the same team but a different look with some pieces back," said ODU Head Coach Dominic Manilla. "From there we go to Lawrence to face Kansas Sunday. They're always well coached with a big style of game that we like as well. We always enjoy going there and expect another tight match."
