Game Notes Old Dominion      Texas A&M University-Commerce

• Old Dominion hosts the third game of a three-game homestand on Saturday when the Monarchs host Texas A&M University-Commerce at 3:30 p.m. The contest is the annual Homecoming game.

• ODU jumped out to a 17-0 lead last week against Wake Forest but the Demon Deacons scored 27 second half points for a 27-24 win. Texas A&M Commerce had a bye.

• LaMareon James became the seventh player in FBS history to return a fumble and interception for a touchdown in the same game. He scored on an 80-yard fumble return in the second quarter and in the third quarter a 66-yard interception return.

• James now has four touchdowns in his career, tied for first among active players in non-offensive touchdowns. He returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in 2021.

• Linebacker Jason Henderson leads the country with 13.3 tackles per game.

ODU and Texas A&M Commerce Ties
Old Dominion tight ends coach Justin Harper and A&M Commerce linebackers coach Jack Tyler played together at Virginia Tech for one season. Harper was a senior when Tyler was a senior.

A&M Commerce wide receivers coach Jarrett Boykin played wide receiver at Virginia Tech and missed playing with Harper by one year. Like Harper, Boykin spent time in the NFL.

Old Dominion's roster has three players from the state of Texas. Wide receiver Kelby Williams and offensive linemen Michael Flores and Jack Scala are from Texas.

Record-Setting James
Junior cornerback LaMareon James returned an interception and fumble return for a touchdown against Wake Forest. He became the seventh player in FBS history to do both in the same game and first to do it since 2017. The returns were the third and fourth touchdowns of his career. Adding to the two kickoff return touchdowns he had in 2021.

James Gets in the End Zone
The two touchdowns in Saturday's game against Wake Forest gave LaMareon James four non-offensive touchdowns in his career. That is tied for the lead among active FBS players. He is tied with Teja Young of Ole Miss and Phillip Brooks of Kansas State.

Big Play Monarchs
ODU already has three pass plays of 50+ yards. Javon Harvey had a pair last week against Wake Forest, with a 68-yard touchdown and a 57-yarder. Against Louisiana, Reymello Murphy had a 61-yard touchdown.

All last season, ODU had three pass plays of 50+ yards. Harvey had two of them.
