NORFOLK, Va. – For the second time in three weeks, Old Dominion baseball has landed a player on Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week list. Jake Ticer earned the distinction on Feb. 20 and this week the honor belongs to Hunter Fitz-Gerald.

A transfer from Florida Southwestern State College, Fitz-Gerald led ODU at the plate last week as he batted .556 with a 1.444 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. For the week, he went 10-for-18 with five home runs, one double, 13 RBIs, 11 runs, 26 total bases, two walks, and one sacrifice fly. He homered, drove in multiple runs and scored at least once in all four games to help the Monarchs (11-1) claim their 11th straight victory and second consecutive series sweep.

His best performance came in Game Two of the team's Saturday doubleheader with Saint Joseph's. Fitz-Gerald homered twice, drove in six runs and scored five times as he finished 5-for-6 to help ODU to an 11-0 win over the Hawks. It marked his second five-hit game of the season.

He's currently the national leader in total bases with 54. Fitz-Gerald also ranks second in the nation in RBIs (25), third in hits (25) and RBIs per game (2.08), fourth in home runs (8) and runs scored (22), sixth in runs per game (1.83), seventh in home runs per game (0.67) and 10th in hits per game (2.08). He came into last week batting .366 and raised his average to .424.

Fitz-Gerald and the Monarchs are back on the field this Tuesday for a 3 p.m. home game against Norfolk State.
