HONOLULU, HI. Tyrone Williams scored a season-high 22 points to lead three in double figures for Old Dominion as they dropped an 87-65 decision to UMass on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Diamond Head Classic.

"I thought we started the game the right way with good energy, focus and effort. But it got away from us and once it did we couldn't reign it back in," said ODU Interim Head Coach Kieran Donohue.

ODU (4-8) opened the game with a Williams steal and 3-pointer off a feed from Vasean Allette in the first 35 seconds. There were five lead changes in the first eight minutes as a Bryce Baker layup off a feed from Jason Wade at the 11:54 mark to lead 12-11.

UMass (8-3) answered with an 11-2 burst to take a 22-14 lead on a Josh Cohen hook shot with 8:49 left in the half.  That advantage grew to 33-22 with 4:41 remaining as Rahsool Diggins drained a 3-pointer. Diggins took the advantage to 41-28 at half with a layup at the buzzer.

The Minutemen opened the second half on a 14-4 run to take a 55-32 lead on a Keon Thompson layup with 16:11 remaining.

Chaunce Jenkins added 15 points, while Allette had 10 points and matched his season-high of eight rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.

Wade tied the tournament single-game record and matched his career high with six steals to go with five rebounds, three points, two assists and one blocked shot.

ODU returns home to start Sun Belt Conference play on December 30 hosting South Alabama at 7:00 p.m. at Chartway Arena.
