ODU Field Hockey Set To Take On #6 Liberty In BIG EAST Championship

NORFOLK, Va. –  The Old Dominion Field Hockey team will take on #6 Liberty in the BIG EAST Championship game on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. from Howarth Field. The Monarchs punched their ticket on Friday after downing number three seed and host Temple, 2-0.
 
The Championship Game will be streamed on Flosports.com.

In the win on Friday Sacha de Gier opened the scoring as she slotted a penalty corner shot to the left on the Owls keeper in the second quarter. Anna Miller extended the lead on a penalty corner that took a deflection off the Temple goalie and the Monarchs held on for a 2-0 win. 
 
Marlon de Bruijne leads the Monarchs offensively with 40 points and 17 goals and de Gier has 29 points and 15 goals. Frederique Zandbergen leads the team with 15 assists as she added two in the victory over Temple. Suus Broers has six shutouts with a goals against average of 1.11 while making 47 saves. 
 
Liberty is coming off a 3-2 win over Villanova on Friday to advance to the Championship. Leading the Flames offensively is Jodie Connelly who has 32 points, 10 goals and 12 assists. Milagros Arteta has 10 goals and Bethany Dykema has 12 assists.
 
The Monarchs and Flames earlier this season with Liberty winning 2-0 in Lynchburg. ODU and Liberty meet in the BIG EAST Championship for the second time in as many years. Last season Liberty defeated Old Dominion 3-1 in the Championship in Norfolk.
