SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Connor van Schalkwyk and Codie van Schalkwyk advanced to the ITA Men's Doubles Fall National Semifinals on Friday with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Edward Winter and Maxi Holberg of the University of the Pacific.
With the win, the van Schalkwyks become the second ODU team to advance to the semifinals of this event joining Aziz Kijametovic and Francois Musitelli who made the semifinals in 2018.
The opening set saw the van Schalkwyks go up 4-2 and from there the teams alternated wins for a 6-4 opening set. In the final set, the Monarch duo ran off the last four games to clinch the win.
"A great performance from Codie and Connor today. Like yesterday, they were very intense and very composed at the same time," said ODU Associate Head Coach Othmane Lalami. "That's a great recipe for success. We are looking forward to tomorrow and this semifinal. We have to stay focused and keep doing what we are doing!"
The van Schalkwyks will take on Pedro Vives and Sebastian Gorzny of TCU in the semifinal on Saturday afternoon.
