NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion baseball head coach Chris Finwood announced the team's complete schedule for the upcoming 2024 season on Tuesday. The Monarchs will play 55 games during the regular season, to include 32 games at Bud Metheny Ballpark and an April 16 game versus Virginia to be played at Harbor Park.

The upcoming season features games against six teams that appeared in the 2023 NCAA Regionals and one team that reached the College World Series.

"As always, we feel like we have a challenging schedule," said Finwood. "Non-conference games versus Rutgers, Northeastern, Charlotte, East Carolina and Virginia as well as a very strong Sun Belt Conference schedule will give us plenty of opportunities to put together a good RPI if we can win enough of them!"

The Monarchs are coming off a 2023 season that saw the team finish 32-23 overall and 15-15 in their first year back in the Sun Belt Conference. ODU won 12 of its first 13 games and went 17-7 in non-conference play with series sweeps of Fordham, William & Mary, Saint Joseph's, and Princeton. In conference action, the Monarchs swept ULM and added series wins over Marshall, Georgia Southern and Arkansas State. Perfect Game named Ben Moore a Second Team Freshman All-American, Hunter Fitz-Gerald earned All-Sun Belt First Team honors and was a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, and Sam Armstrong landed on the All-Conference Second Team.

ODU will start off its 2024 campaign at home against George Washington on Feb. 16-18. The Monarchs will also host non-conference series against Rutgers (Feb. 23-25), Charlotte (March 1-3), Northeastern (March 8-10) as well as a pair of midweek games against Princeton (March 12-13).

ODU also has several home-and-home series against East Carolina, William & Mary, Richmond, and VCU. The Monarchs will host the Pirates on Feb. 27 and travel to Greenville, North Carolina on April 10. ODU's series with the Tribe is scheduled for March 5-6, with a location for each date still to be determined. The Spiders will be in Norfolk on March 19 and ODU will then play at U of R on May 14. The Rams will come to The Bud on April 23 and then host the Monarchs on May 7.

Additionally, ODU will have three meetings with Virginia. The Cavaliers will host the first two games in Charlottesville on Feb. 20 and April 2. ODU will then host Virginia at Harbor Park on April 16 for the Commonwealth Classic. It will mark the eighth time ODU has played a game there as last year's iteration of the Classic was moved to The Bud.

Conference play will begin on March 15-17 with a home weekend versus Georgia Southern. Other Sun Belt teams making the trip to Norfolk this spring include South Alabama (March 28-30), James Madison (April 12-14), ULM (April 26-28) and App State (May 10-12). ODU has conference road series at Louisiana (March 22-24), Coastal Carolina (April 5-7), Marshall (April 19-21), Texas State (May 3-5) and Georgia State (May 16-18).

"It's our last year in the old Bud as we know it and we hope to go out with a bang," added Finwood. "We will have some nice alumni events later in the season where we hope our alums will come back and share some wonderful memories that were made here. We have some special ones in our 12 years here as well and hope to make a few more this season!"

The 2024 Sun Belt Championship will be held on May 21-26 at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama. Riverwalk Stadium is the home of the Tampa Bay Rays' AA affiliate, the Montgomery Biscuits.
