FOLEY, Ala. – Freshman Ashlynn Kulha headed in a corner kick from Anna Torslov in the 84th minute and the Monarchs made that stand as second-seeded Old Dominion defeated seventh-seeded Georgia State 1-0 in the Sun Belt Quarterfinals at the Foley Sports Complex.

ODU (11-2-5) now advances to face third-seeded Georgia Southern (12-5-1) who defeated sixth-seeded ULM 4-3 in penalty kicks after tying 1-1. The Monarchs defeated Georgia Southern 2-1 on September 24 where Megan Watts scored in the 66th minute for the game-winner on the road.

"We are delighted to get the win and progress to the semis! It was really windy and difficult to get the ball down at times and we felt that first half for sure," said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind. "Second half we had the wind and it helped us play more in their half. Games like these are often defined by moments and today we had a quality set play to win it."

In a contest through 20-mile-per hour winds for most of the match, ODU had the only two shots of the first half. The second half saw ODU chip away and put up six shots on Georgia State (9-5-6) goalie Jaddah Foos. Torslov sent in the corner kick and Kulha had a running start to put it in the net for her third goal of the season and the 1-0 advantage.

"Anna delivered a great corner and Ashlynn just timed it so well. We are delighted with the win," said Hind.

ODU's win snaps a streak of six straight semifinal appearances by Georgia State as Emily Bredek didn't have to make a save on the day in recording her 11th shutout of the season and the 12th on the year for the Monarchs. ODU held Georgia State to one shot on the day with an 8-1 advantage, including 4-0 on goal.
