SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team split action in day one of the ITA Fall Nationals held at the Benson Tennis Center in San Diego.

Connor van Schalkwyk and Codie van Schalkwyk scored a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) win over Juan Pablo Valdez Guzman and Carlos Giminez Perez of UAB, while the duo of Jakob Cadonau and Cosme Rolland De Ravel dropped a tough 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) match to Alejandro Gandini and Matthew Lanahan of Creighton.

The van Schalkwyk brothers advance to take on Peter Alam and Justas Trainauskas of Pacific in the round of 16 on Thursday, while Cadonau and Rolland De Ravel will face top-seeded Hunter Heck and Karlis Ozolins of Illinois. That duo is sixth-ranked nationally.

"Overall a solid first day. Great win for Connor and Codie to kickstart their tournament. They looked intense and poised, and we are very excited for the next round against Pacific," said ODU Associate Head Coach Othmane Lalami.  "For Cosme and Jakob, they are as disappointed as I am, cause they could have played better, which makes it harder to accept, but we have a huge opportunity to bounce back tomorrow against the #1 seed and sixth-ranked team in the nation. We will be ready for it and will play big!"
