NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion Volleyball completed a perfect weekend, ending the home portion of the schedule with back-to-back 3-0 victories over Georgia State.
"We played well. I think we earned points, we served tough and that's going to be very important going into the tournament," ODU Head Coach Fred Chao said.
Myah Conway led the Monarchs with 17 kills and five blocks, while Bailey Burgess added seven kills and six blocks and Elisa Maggi added seven kills.
In the opening set ODU jumped out to a 9-3 lead highlighted by three kills from Conway and one from Olivia De Jesus. The Panthers cut the lead to 10-7 but a Teresa Atilano kill got the Monarchs back on the board and an ace from Tessa Mati pushed the Monarch lead to 18-12.
ODU stayed on the attack with kills by Maggi and Conway and clinched the first set with a pair of attack errors by GSU.
Georgia State jumped out to a quick 2-1 start in the second set but the Monarchs came back with five-straight points and took a 6-2 lead on a Conway kill.
The Panthers came back to trim the lead to 8-6 and kept it close until a pair of kills by Burgess and Mati gave ODU a 20-14 lead.
ODU won five of the next six points including an Atilano kill to give ODU a 25-15 win.
The third set was more of the same as GSU had a 3-1 lead before ODU ripped off six-straight points to take a 9-5 lead. Burgess and Conway had kills for ODU and the Monarchs took advantage of four attack errors by the Panthers.
