NEW ORLEANS – For the second time this season Old Dominion linebacker Jason Henderson has earned Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the Sun Belt announced on Monday.
Henderson recorded a game-high 17 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack in ODU's 17-13 win at Southern Miss. Henderson's final tackle of the game stopped Southern Miss on fourth and goal at the one-yard line to set the Monarchs up to run out the clock. Henderson and the Monarch defense did not allow a touchdown and held the Golden Eagles to 276 yards of offense. He became ODU's all-time leading tackler with 358 career tackles, surpassing Jordan Young.
Henderson has 92 tackles on the year to lead the country and his 13 tackles for loss also lead the country. ODU has a bye this week before hosting App State on Saturday, Oct. 21.
