Women's Soccer Starts Sun Belt Tournament Play With Georgia State Wednesday

NORFOLK, Va. – The 2023 Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Tournament begins for the Old Dominion Monarchs on Wednesday afternoon as they'll face seventh seeded Georgia State at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex at 2:30 p.m. ET.
 
Old Dominion (10-2-5) finished first in the East Division with 14 points going 4-0-2 in divisional play. Georgia State (9-4-6) finished fifth in the East Division with eight points and a 2-2-2 mark. The Panthers advanced to Wednesday's match with a 1-0 win over 10th-seed Southern Miss on Monday.
 
These teams played just recently on October 22 as the Monarchs and Panthers went to a 0-0 draw in Norfolk. Emily Bredek finished with six saves on the day, including a breakaway stop in the second half, as she set the school single-season record for shutouts with 10.
 
The winner of this quarterfinal will face the winner of third seed Georgia Southern and sixth seeded ULM on Friday at 5 p.m. in the semifinals.
 
ABOUT ODU
Ece Turkoglu leads the Monarchs in goals scored with five and points with 11 adding one assist to her total. Megan Watts has five goals on the year for 10 points, with Anna Tørsløv following her in points scored with seven adding three goals and one assist. Watts has three game winning goals and had the game-tying goal with 94 seconds left in the regular season finale at ULM on October 26.
 
Aleigha Arndt leads the team with three assists, while Andrea Balcazar Algarin and Madison Micheletti have a pair of assists each.
 
In the net, Bredek has a goals against average of 0.418 to rank fourth nationally and is fifth nationally after her school record 10th shutout. As a team, the Monarchs are fifth nationally in goals against average at 0.412.
 
All six goals allowed by ODU this season have occurred in the second half. In the first half ODU has outscored opponents 6-0.
 
In the latest RPI rankings, ODU comes in 59th.
 
ABOUT GEORGIA STATE
Olivia Shaw scored her third goal of the season on Monday afternoon taking a pass from Elena Diaz and finding the back of the net as the Panthers defeated Southern Miss 1-0 in the first round matchup.
 
Aaliyah Faddoul leads Georgia State in scoring with seven goals and six assists for 20 points. Alondra Nieves shares the lead in goals scored with Faddoul adding seven and one assist for 15 points. Brooke Hart is next with four, followed by three players with three each.
 
In the net, Jaddah Foos has a 0.46 goals against average, an .885 save percentage and has six shutouts on the year for Georgia State.
