MONROE, La. – Graduate student Megan Watts put in a rebound shot with 94 seconds left as Old Dominion finished the regular season with a 1-1 draw at ULM in Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer action on Thursday evening.
The Monarchs kept chipping away at the strong Warhawk defense throughout the second half and set up the equalizer off a turnover at the top of the penalty box. Gry Boe Thrysoe gathered the loose ball and took a shot that went off the post and right into the feet of Watts who stuck in the rebound to tie the match.
"I thought we were just brilliant tonight. ULM are where they are for a reason and I felt we played so well on both sides of the ball," said ODU Head Coach Angie Hind. "We were strong in possession and so positive and created good opportunities tonight. We certainly felt we could have taken more from the game and pushed so much the last period."
Old Dominion held control for most of the opening half holding a 6-1 advantage in shots, but no one could solve the others defense as the first half went scoreless.
In the second half, ULM got control of the start and cracked the scoreboard at 49:21 when Inge Konst headed in a corner kick from Mara Grutkamp as ULM (9-2-7) took the 1-0 lead.
On the night, the Monarchs finished with a 15-5 advantage in shots, 3-1 on goal, with both teams having three corner kicks.
"I think this was a hugely competitive game with two very good teams going at it," said Hind. "ULM have real quality but I'm so proud of how we performed tonight. A very good performance to take us into tournament play next week."
Old Dominion will enter the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the second-seed and will play at 2:30 pm ET on November 1 in Foley, Alabama. Their opponent will come from a Monday, October 30 first round matchup between the seventh-seed Georgia State and 10th seeded Southern Miss.
