NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University athletics announced on Thursday that Dennis Wolff and Shonda Deberry will be joining the men's and women's basketball radio broadcasts this year as color analysts.
"We are excited to have Dennis and Shonda join our broadcasting team. It is great that they have ties to ODU, and we look forward to the insight they can provide, with Dennis as a former coach and Shonda as a player," said Scott Bailey, General Manager of ODU Sports Properties.
Wolff worked six years with the men's basketball program as the Director of Basketball Operations. During his time at ODU, Wolff has helped the Monarchs to a Conference USA Regular Season Championship, as well as a Conference USA Tournament Championship in 2019, leading to the school's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2011.
He came to ODU after serving as the head women's basketball coach at Virginia Tech from 2011-16, posting a 61-93 record. Wolff also served one season as the Director of Men's Basketball Operations and Assistant to the Head Coach for the Virginia Tech men's basketball program, also coached for 15 years at Boston University finishing as the all-time leader in wins with 247. Prior to BU, he spent four years at UVA on Jones' staff (1990-94). Additionally, he spent four years (1985-89) as an assistant coach at Wake Forest and one year (1989-90) at Southern Methodist University.
Deberry was a four-year letterwinner for the women's basketball program from 1992-96 and finished her career as a member of the 1,000-point club scoring 1,096 points in 125 games.
She was an All-CAA selection in 1994 when she averaged a career-best 12.4 points per game. Deberry was a CAA All-Academic honoree in 1995 when they made the NCAA Sweet 16 and finished ranked in the top ten nationally in both polls. She was a member of four CAA Tournament championship teams in her career and her teams were 103-23 in her tenure. She is currently a guidance counselor in the Norfolk Public Schools system.
