PHILADELPHIA – Old Dominion linebacker Jason Henderson was named the Bednarik Award Player of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Tuesday. Henderson is the first Monarch in program history to earn the honor.
In Saturday's win at Southern Miss, Henderson recorded 17 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a quarterback hurry. It is the ninth time in his career Henderson has registered at least 17 tackles in a game. His final tackle of the night on fourth and goal at the two with just under four minutes remaining turned Southern Miss over on downs and ODU ran out the final 3:51 to clinch the victory.
For the season, Henderson leads the country with 92 tackles and in tackles for loss with 13. In the win at Southern Miss he became ODU's all-time leading tackler, surpassing former teammate, Jordan Young.
Henderson and the Monarchs have a bye this weekend before hosting App State in the 73rd Oyster Bowl on Saturday, Oct. 21. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. on the NFL Network.
