WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. – Old Dominion women's golf wrapped up its first tournament of the fall season on Tuesday, placing 11th at Purdue's Boilermaker Classic.
The two-day tournament was played on the par-72 Kampen-Cosler course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The Monarchs posted rounds of 294 and 305 on Monday, then turned in a 302 for their final trip around the course on Tuesday for a 54-hole total of 901 (+37).
"We have a new, young team this year and we were excited to play such a quality field for our first event," said head coach Mallory Kane. "It is a process to get everyone acclimated and it will take us some time to establish what we need to improve. This is a talented group and we will get better with the more experience we gain."
Purdue captured the team title with a 12-under par 852, Alabama was the runner-up with a six-under 858, and Minnesota rounded out the top three with an even score of 864. Minnesota's Isabella McCauley led the 85-player field with a 12-under 204 to earn medalist honors. Purdue's Kan Bunnabodee placed second with a nine-under 207 and Louisville's Hana Ryskova shot a six-under 210 to come in third.
Klara Wildhaber was the top finisher for ODU, tying for 43rd with a three-round total of 224 (+8). The senior from Fribourg, Sweden opened the Classic with an even 72 and added a 74 and 78 for her next two rounds. Carley Rudolf finished three strokes behind Wildhaber and tied for 47th with an 11-over 227. Puneet Bajwa and Lucia Gonzalez carded a pair of 12-over 228s to tie for 51st, and Sarah Mardani tied for 60th with a 13-over 229.
The Monarchs will have a couple of weeks to prepare for the Lady Paladin Invitational, which will be hosted at the Furman University Golf Club on Sept. 22-24.
