NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion cornerback LaMareon James earned Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, the SBC office announced on Monday.
James scored a pair of defensive touchdowns in Old Dominion's contest against Wake Forest on Saturday, scoring on an 80-yard fumble return and 66-yard interception return. He is the seventh player in FBS history to score on a fumble and interception return in the same game.
A native of Norfolk, James started his third-straight game at cornerback and recorded three tackles.
James is tied for the active career lead in non-offensive touchdowns with four. He is tied with Phillip Brooks of Kansas State and Teja Young of Ole Miss.
It is the second-straight week a Monarch was named defensive player of the week, as Jason Henderson received the honor a week ago.
ODU hosts Texas A&M University-Commerce on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3:30 p.m. for Homecoming. For ticket information, click here.
