NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion baseball head coach Chris Finwood announced on Monday that Ryan Fineman has joined his staff as an assistant coach.
"We are so happy to add Ryan to our staff. He came highly recommended from many trusted baseball people and has a nice background with his playing and coaching experiences. Ryan has jumped in and already fit into our culture here at ODU. He'll work with our catchers and assist with hitters as well as recruiting," said Finwood.
Fineman was most recently at Alabama, having joined the Crimson Tide's staff last summer as their Director of Player Personnel. In that role, he assisted with the development of the team's hitters and catchers and assisted with on-campus recruiting. Prior to his time in Tuscaloosa, he was a volunteer assistant coach at New Orleans (2021-2022) and an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Chipola Junior College (2020-21).
Originally from Westlake Village, California, Fineman was a four-year starting catcher at Indiana from 2016-2019, helping the Hoosiers capture a Big Ten regular-season title in 2019 and make three appearances in the NCAA Regionals. After earning Big Ten All-Freshman honors in 2016, he hit .284 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs as a junior in 2018. He signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Tampa Bay Rays and played one season with their Gulf Coast rookie team in 2019.
"I'm super grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Finwood's staff at ODU," said Fineman. "I'm excited to join a prestigious program that has set a standard of winning and developing. I look forward to working with Coach Finwood, Jonathan Hadra, Mike Marron, Nick Murray and the rest of the support staff."
