NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion women's golfers Leah Onosato and Lucia Gonzalez have been named to the Sun Belt's All-Conference First Team, as announced by the league office on Friday. The awards were voted upon by the league's 13 head coaches and the All-Sun Belt Teams were determined by GolfStat national rankings.
A graduate student from Kumamoto, Japan, Onosato captured the first Conference Championship Individual Title in program history as she won the Sun Belt tournament with a two-under par 214. She led the Championship from start to finish, carding a four-under 68 in the opening round and a pair of one-over 73s in the second and third rounds. With the win, Onosato received an at-large bid to the Palm Beach Gardens Regional, where she tied for 43rd at 13-over 229.
She played in 11 tournaments during 2022-23 and owned an average score of 73.56 and a +1.75 score versus par in 32 rounds. Onosato had five Top-20 finishes for the Monarchs, to include placing fourth with a six-under 210 at the Lady Paladin Invitational on Sept. 23-25.
A freshman from Monterrey, Mexico, Gonzalez finished the season with a 73.41 scoring average and a 1.62 score versus par in 10 tournaments and 29 rounds played. She also had five Top-20 finishes and had her best outing at the Lady Paladin Invitational, tying for fifth with a four-under 212. Her five-over total of 221 tied her for 13th at The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State on Oct. 17-18, and she shot a two-over 218 to tie for 17th at The Show at Spanish Trail on Feb. 20-21. Gonzalez capped off the season with a 54-hole total of nine-over 225 to tie for 21st at the Conference Championship.
ULM's Chantal Dueringer was selected the Sun Belt Golfer of the Year, teammate Anna Andrysova earned Freshman of the Year, and ULM head coach Rachel Pollock was named the Coach of the Year. Newcomer of the Year honors went to Georgia Southern's Haley Yerxa.
