NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's basketball team will get to spend the Christmas holidays this coming winter on the islands of Hawai'i as it was announced today that the Monarchs will participate in the 2023 Diamond Head Classic.
The 14th edition of the ESPN Events men's college basketball tournament will be at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu on December 21, 22 and 24 with times and schedule to be announced at a later date.
"We are excited to compete in the Diamond Head Classic next season. This is always such a strong event and the field in December is no different, we are looking forward to it," said ODU Head Coach Jeff Jones.
Joining the Monarchs on the islands will be Georgia Tech, Nevada, Saint Mary's (CA), TCU, Temple, UMass and the host Hawai'i. The Monarchs have faced Georgia Tech (0-2), Hawai'i (0-1) and TCU (1-0) before. Nevada, Saint Mary's (CA) and TCU are coming off NCAA Tournament appearances in 2022.
Previous Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic tournament champions include USC (2009, 2017), Butler (2010), Kansas State (2011), Arizona (2012), Iowa State (2013), George Washington (2014), Oklahoma (2015), San Diego State (2016), TCU (2018), Houston (2019), Vanderbilt (2021) and Hawai'i (2022).
