Onosato Leads the Field Entering the Final Round of the Sun Belt Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Leah Onosato is in sole possession of first place after carding a one-over par 73 in Monday's second round of the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship.

The graduate student was two-over at the turn with bogeys on the par-3 third hole and par-4 ninth hole. She then birdied the par-4 11th hole and par-5 14th hole to pull even, but another bogey on the par-3 15th hole pushed her to one-over. She enters the final 18 holes with a 36-hole total of 141 (-3).

Onosato entered the day tied for first alongside Texas State's Marine Griffaut, who dropped into a tie for 31st after a round of 12-over 82. Arkansas State's Olivia Schmidt and ULM's Chantal Dueringer are one stroke back of Onosato and tied for second with scores of two-under 142.

Lucia Gonzalez recorded a two-over 74 to move up to a tie for 17th at 149 (+5). Klara Wildhaber is tied for 35th at 154 (+10), Pilar Muguruza is tied for 48th at 161, and Minami Kudo is tied for 50th with a score of 162. The Monarchs turned in a round of 20-over 308 today and are in ninth place with a combined 605 (+29).

ULM is atop the team standings with an 8-over par 584, Texas State is second with an 11-over 587, and Arkansas State is third at 16-over 592. Troy, James Madison and Georgia State are two strokes ahead of ODU and tied for sixth at 603.

"We wish we were a little closer to the lead, but a good day tomorrow and we can move up the leaderboard. Leah continued her good play today and she is looking forward to tomorrow," said head coach Mallory Kane.
 
Tuesday's final round will see the Monarchs paired with Georgia State and Southern Miss. ODU will tee off from the 10th hole between 8-8:36 a.m., and fans can watch the tournament on ESPN+ or follow along with live stats on GolfStat.
