Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against St. Joseph's, 15-4 and 11-0

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University Baseball clubbed six home runs and scored 26 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Saint Joseph's on Saturday. The Monarchs won game one 15-4 and shut out the Hawks 11-0 in game two.
 
In game one, Old Dominion (10-1) scored three runs before an out was recorded. Luke Waters led off with a double and scored on a single by Hunter Fitz-Gerald. Jake Ticer followed with a towering homer to right for a 3-0 ODU lead.
 
ODU scored five more runs in the second inning to blow the game open. Waters delivered a two-run single and Fitz-Gerald knocked in a run behind him and Ticer knocked his second home run out of the park for an 8-0 lead.
 
Ryan Cesarini got on the board with a homer but the Monarchs came right back with three runs in the fourth inning. Kenny Levari delivered a two-run triple to right and Thomas Wheeler knocked in Levari with a sac fly.
 
St. Joe's (1-5) scored runs in the fifth and sixth, but Old Dominion continued to step on the gas as Fitz-Gerald hit his first homer in the fifth and again in the seventh.
 
Old Dominion jumped on the Hawks again in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning. Fitz-Gerald doubled to right to score Waters and Alex Bouche homered for the 3-0 lead.
 
ODU scored three more runs in the sixth inning. Josh Trujillo delivered an RBI ground out and Chris Dengler singled to improve the lead to 6-0.
 
In the seventh the Monarchs put three more on the board as Bouche tripled and Wheeler singled to right to make it a 9-0 game.
 
Waters added a sac fly in the eighth and Fitz-Gerald hit his third homer of the day for the final 11-0 tally.
 
Sam Armstrong pitched a career-high seven innings, striking out eight with one walk to earn the win.
 
Fitz-Gerald went 7-for-10 on the day with three homers, eight runs scored and eight RBIs. Kenny Levari added a pair of multi-hit games, going 5-for-8.
 
The two teams play the final game of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
