Men's Tennis Sweeps Weekend Knocking Off St. John's 5-2

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team finished off a 2-0 week with a 5-2 win over St. John's on Sunday afternoon outside at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
 
Doubles saw the Red Storm take a pair of 7-6 decisions at the one and two spots to claim the team point. Francois Le Tallec and Cosme Rolland De Ravel won 6-0 at line three for the Monarchs.
 
In singles, ODU (8-4) got off to a quick start with the first three wins. Rolland De Ravel finished off a 4-0 week at line three with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Giuseppe De Camelis to even the match. Younes Lalami followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Carl Gustafsson at the top spot for a 2-1 ODU lead. Luca Maldoner won 6-1, 7-6 at line six over Ryota Kaneda to give the Monarchs a 3-1 lead.
 
St. John's (9-3) answered with a win before the Monarchs closed it out with wins at the four and five spots. Nicola Vidal clinched the match at line five with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Filipe Grebentsov, while Jakob Cadonau defeated Adam Groves at line four 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
 
"St John's is ranked where they are ranked for a reason. They threw everything at us and made us earn every point today," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller. "I'm glad how we responded in singles today winning several close sets. I'm excited to have a little time off before we had to Texas for three high level matches."
